Cisco (in Petaluma) has software engineering positions available for active students and recent graduates.

The positions involve designing, developing and testing software for our next-generation Carrier Ethernet router/switches. Demand for this type of device is exploding as part of the Internet’s growth in services such as Video-On-Demand (VOD) and video sharing sites such as YouTube, Metacafe, etc.

In this role you will be exposed to technologies such as Ethernet, IP/MPLS, QoS/ACL, L2VPN, OAM, and Multicast. You will also participate in multi-site, multi-national development where you can see how teams come together to meet significant technical challenges. We are looking for people with the following skills and interests:

- A passion for programming

- Curiosity about technology and how/why things work

- Good communication skills

- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

- C or C++ language knowledge / experience (or equivalent)

- Exposure to multi-processing programming concepts
