12/05/07: CS Department Winter Celebration
Let's all get together to celebrate the end of the semester this Thursday at noon in Darwin 102. We'll recognize our December graduates and other achievement in the department and celebrate Gayle Walker's retirement after 18 years of service. There will be free PIZZA and good times - BE THERE!!

09/19/07: SSU Undergraduate Research Funds
Are you engaged in or considering an independent research project this year? The SSU Undergraduate Research Grant program is designed to aid undergrads with research expenses including supplies, equipment, or travel to present their research at professional or scholarly meetings. The max award is $500. Guidelines and application forms are available in the Academic Programs office, Stevenson 1041 or at http://www.sonoma.ed\ u/aa/ap. The application deadline is October 26, 2007.

09/04/07: The CS Department is planning to offer 3 electives in the Spring: CS 340 Computer Security & Malware, CS 385: Selected Topics: Embedded Systems, and a third to be chosen from CS 452: Compiler Design and Construction, CS 360: Object Oriented Programming and CS 385: Selected Topics: Game Programming. What 3rd elective do you want? Go to the poll on the CS Club website and let us know what you think!

08/29/07:NASA Education and Public Outreach at Sonoma State University is looking for student volunteers to help create interactive 3-D programs and animations to promote science education materials related to NASA space missions. If you are interested, please contact Kamal Prasad at kamal@universe.sonoma.edu. No prior science knowledge is required.

08/17/07: Welcome back greetings from the CS Department Chair

07/20/07: Computer Networking and the Internet course this Fall!
CS 365, Computer Networking and the Internet, has been added to the Fall 2007 schedule. The course is being taught by Mike Lyle and will meet Tu/Th 2:30-3:20 for lecture and Th 3:30-5:20 for lab experimentation with networking equipment. CS 365 can be applied toward the CS elective requirements in the CS major. Sign up for the course during your next registration. (Note that CS 385: Advance CS has been dropped from the schedule and replaced by CS 365.)

05/08/07: New Section of CS 215 opened for Fall 2007
A second section of CS 215 has been opened. You can add the course during REG 2. Email Dr. Watts (tia.watts@sonoma.edu) with any questions.

04/19/2007: CS Graduates with Distinction
The CS Department is pleased to announce that Stephen Foreman, Doug Lash, Steven Moore and Erik Taylor have been selected by the CS Faculty to graduate this May with honors of distinction for their outstanding acheivements in the major. Congratulations!!

03/29/07: CS and WICS Club President Elizabeth Giuliani was recognized at the 11th Annual Woman Student Leader Award Ceremony on March 27 for her outstanding service contributions. Congratulations, Elizabeth!!

03/05/07: ACM Turing Award
ACM has named Frances E. Allen the recipient of the 2006 A. M. Turing Award for contributions that fundamentally improved the performance of computer programs in solving problems, and accelerated the use of high performance computing. This award marks the first time that a woman has received this honor. Read the press release.
