11/10/09: SSU CS Programming Team Results

Our programming teams competed well in this past weekend's ACM Regional Programming Contest held at the University of the Pacific. SSU Team 1 (Devon Garber, Doug Horn and Brendan Humphrey) placed 3rd among the 10 CSU teams (behind much larger SJSU and CSUS). SSU Team 3 (Ryan O'Donnell, Scotty Peters, and Stephanie Schmidt) placed 7th. Way to go C-Wolves!!

09/24/09: Rescuing Endangered Rural Hospitals with Technology

There will be a talk on the applications of technology in rural healthcare. Dr. Gude, a Clinical Professor of Medicine at UCSF and the Medical Director of OffSiteCare, Inc. in Santa Rosa will be speaking at 1:30pm on Thursday, October 1 in Salazar 2009A. This talk is part of the ES 110 course, but all are welcome to attend.

08/25/09: Fall 2009 CS Welcome Celebration

Please join us for a "Welcome to Fall 2009" gathering at a few minutes past noon in Salazar 2016 this Thursday, 8/27. We'll get to hear from our Computer Club and WICS about their plans for this year. There will be free pizza and soda.

04/10/09: Spring 2009 CS Graduates with Distinction

The CS Department has awarded Jodi Gentile, Jenna Silva and Travis Stark with Graduation with Distinction Honors. These honors are awarded to undergraduate students who are judged by the faculty to have made outstanding contributions to their department in academics, service, and other areas. Jodi, Jenna and Travis join our Fall 2008 Grads with Distinction - Ben Corr, Joe Gibbs, Leela Norton, Brian Rackle, and Eric Rauch. Congratulations to these outstanding students!!

11/18/08: Regional ACM Programming Competition held at Stanford

SSU programming teams competed well in the Regional ACM Programming Contest held at Stanford on Saturday, November 15. CS students Devon Garber, Doug Horn and Joe Mueller were the 3rd place CSU team (behind much larger SJSU and Chico) and Anthony Cavallaro, Eric Milliren, and David Albert completed a competitive number of the programming problems. Bravo to our SSU programming team!! A special thank you to the faculty coach Dr. Tia Watts and assistant coach Dr. Ali Kooshesh for supporting our programmers!

10/01/08: Revised Draft Spring 2009 CS Schedule

Students are encouraged to look over the latest draft of the Spring 2009 CS Schedule. We are offering three electives next term: CS 340 Security and Malware, CS 365 Networking, and CS 385 Distributed Computing: Multicore and Manycore Programming. 10/01/08: The Alice Virtual Challenge

The Computer Science Department is hosting The Alice Virtual Challenge for SSU students. Use the free Alice development environment to build a game, animation or some other creative virtual world. No programming experience is required. Prizes awarded at novice to advanced levels. The Alice Virtual Challenge FAQ for details on the contest. Registration ends November 24, 2008 at 5pm and final submissions are due before 5pm on December 1.

09/02/08: Graduation Forms Due Sept 15

Graduation forms for CS majors expecting to graduate in Dec 2008 or May 2009 are due to Admissions & Records before Sept 15. Forms are available from A&R and require approval from the CS Department Chair, Dr. Stauffer. Make an appointment through Gina Voight to get your forms approved.

01/29/08: Looking for a way to distinguish yourself upon graduation?

Want an "in" on a job? You should add CS 385 Adhoc Wireless Sensor Networks and/or CS 340 Computer Security to your schedule this spring. If you don't "need" another elective to meet the minimum major requirements, you should still consider taking the class and perhaps opting for a Credit/No Credit grading basis. We need our majors in these courses!!! Please consider adding them!!

01/24/08: New departmental server cWolf

Our departmental server, linux.cs.sonoma.edu, formally retired on 23 January 2008. All accounts have been migrated to our new server, cWolf.cs.sonoma.edu, a 64-bit Intel-based dual-processor box with 4GB of RAM and over three Terabytes of disk-space. User-names on cWolf.cs.sonoma.edu are identical to those on linux.cs.sonoma.edu---your initial password has been set to your student-id. Please login to cWolf and change your password as soon as it is convenient to do so. Direct your suggestions, questions, and problems to Roger Mamer (roger.mamer at sonoma dot edu.)

11/13/07: Congrats to our SSU Programming Team!

Lincoln Peters, Brian Rackle, and Christopher Hoffman placed 34th out of 77 teams and 4th among 9 CSU teams (behind much bigger programs at Sac State, SJSU and Chico) in the Regional ACM Programming contest held at Stanford last Saturday. Greg Robinson and Tony Chen also participated as alternates. C++Wolves rule!!
